Mark has over 30 years extensive experience in all facets of Commercial Law, Insurance Law, Employment Law and Building and Construction Law. Clients appreciate his forthright manner, commercial approach and his ability to find solutions to problems and dilemmas for clients, and thus avoid exposure to and involvement in litigation. In Commercial Litigation and Insurance Law he acts for individuals and companies and is not afraid to tackle difficult issues and to ‘take on’ Insurers both in preparing and pursuing claims. In Employment Law he acts for both employers or employees and has assisted in drafting of employment contracts and employment arrangements, and in resolving various types of employment difficulties.
Mark was instrumental in the successful resolution of claims for victims of storm damage throughout the Illawarra when the region was inundated by floods in 1998. He is a recipient of the Centenary Medal, awarded for services to the community.
Mark is the honourary Solicitor for North Wollongong Surf Club and for the KidzWish Foundation. Mark was the Chairman of the Healthier Illawarra Men Committee during its operations. He was a founding director of the Illawarra Business Chamber and served as a director for a period of 10 years. He is a Life Member of APEX Australia. He is the Immediate Past President of Vikings Rugby Union Football Club.

Brendan is an avid golfer and was a director of the Wollongong Golf Club for a period of 11 years. He has previously served on the board at the Red Cross and is presently a member of the board of Edmund Rice College, Wollongong.
Brendan is currently the Chairman of the Illawarra Cricket Association Judiciary.
Natasha Hewlett (Pearson) graduated from the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Law, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). Natasha is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and of the High Court of Australia.
Natasha is a Partner and the head of our Family Law team. Natasha has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of Family Law and Insurance Litigation.
Natasha understands both the financial and emotional impact a relationship breakdown can have on her clients. Natasha is committed to achieving cost effective solutions and the best possible outcomes for her clients in the areas of Divorce, Parenting, Property, Spousal support and De Facto Matters. Natasha regularly appears in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, Family Court of Australia, District Court and Local Court. Natasha is sensitive to the needs of clients that have experienced domestic violence.
In 2013 Natasha successfully completed the National Training Program for Independent Children’s Lawyers and was appointed as to the panel of Independent Children's Lawyers. Natasha has also been appointed to the Family Law Legal Aid Panel.
Natasha assists family law clients in both Legal Aid and Non-Legal Aid matters.
In this area of practice, Natasha predominantly acts on behalf of plaintiffs in the area of insurance litigation, however, prior to joining the team at Maguire & McInerney Natasha was involved in defending public liability claims for one of the major banks and several insurance companies.

Natasha’s areas of practice include all types of personal injury matters including motor vehicle accidents, workplace injury, medical negligence, and dust disease matters.
Natasha is passionate about assisting the community. Natasha is a committee member for the Illawarra Women's Lawyers Association of New South Wales. In 2017 Natasha participated in Stars of Wollongong Dance for Cancer raising $8,000 for the Cancer Council. Natasha previously served on the Board of Members for Breast Aware Australia.

Matthew Barnes is a Partner at Maguire & McInerney Lawyers, and an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation.
Matthew is the only Accredited Specialist in the Illawarra who specialises in Building and Construction Law. He has acted extensively for property owners, builders and developers in relation to defective building claims, Security of Payment Act claims and general contract disputes. Matthew has extensive experience in appearing at NCAT, the Supreme Court of NSW, and the lower Courts. Matthew has also appeared in interstate Courts and has been appointed to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia.
Matthew also has expertise in insurance, professional negligence, equity, local government and planning and insolvency law.
Matthew holds a Masters degree of Applied Law (Commercial Litigation) and has two Honours degrees in Law and Economics respectively.
In addition, Matthew is also a highly experienced advocate in Criminal Law Matters. Matthew has a particular interest in 'white collar' crime where his commercial background is often of great assistance.
Matthew has been involved in a broad range of cases including successful Court of Criminal Appeal matters and regularly appears in District Court Trials. Matthew has also completed a Masters degree in the area of Criminal Law.
Alyce Fisher graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2014 with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Studies (Distinction).
Alyce principally works with Matthew Barnes in the areas of Criminal Law, Building & Construction Law and General Litigation.
Alyce can assist in all Criminal Law matters, including sentencing and has acted for clients in the Local, District & Supreme Courts.
Prior to joining the Maguire & McInerney team, Alyce worked in-house in local government. Alyce helps clients to understand their legislative obligations and can advise clients in aspects of local government and planning law, with a focus on the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (1979).
Renee graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2012 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting. In 2013, Renee completed her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Wollongong. Renee is a member of the Law Society of NSW and is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and of the High Court of Australia. Renee has also successfully completed the Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner program at the College of Law and will soon be an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner authorised to provide mediation services and to issue Certificates, pursuant to section 60I of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) that satisfy the requirements for dispute resolution that must be complied with before an application is made to the Family Court of Australia for a parenting order.
Renee regularly appears in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, Family Court of Australia, the Local Court and the District Court. Renee is on the Family Law Panel for Legal Aid NSW, and is able to assist clients in both Legal Aid and non-Legal Aid matters. Renee also speaks Greek and is passionate about helping her client’s understand complex legal issues and assisting her client’s to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Cassandra has completed a combined degree in Law and Arts at Wollongong University and was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of NSW in December 2008. She was admitted as a solicitor in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and to the High Court Roll on 9 June 2011.
Cassandra was a high achiever at University and has continued to work at that high level ever since. Her focus has been family law and has worked almost exclusively in that area since 2011.
Cassandra is a Law Society Accredited Specialist in Family Law.
Her sound knowledge and caring nature ensures that her clients receive the best possible assistance when going through the difficult period of family issues.
Teague graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2013 with a Bachelor of Laws. Teague completed his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Australian National University. Teague is a member of the Law Society of NSW and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2016.
Teague principally works with Matthew Barnes and Alyce Fisher in the areas of Criminal Law, Building and Construction Law and general Commercial Litigation.
Teague can assist in all Criminal Law matters, including sentencing and has acted for clients in the Local and District courts.
Prior to joining Maguire & McInerney, Teague was a member of the Sydney Metropolitan Stipendiary Stewards' Panel for Racing NSW. Teague also held the position of Stewards Assistant Counsel, advising NSW Stewards on a range of legal matters as they relate to the Thoroughbred Racing Industry. These roles required Teague to be proficient in the Rules of Racing and the legal implications relevant to the safety and integrity of thoroughbred racing in New South Wales. As part of this role, Teague conducted a range of Stewards' inquiries and also appeared before the Racing NSW Appeals Panel. This time spent with Racing NSW, has given Teague great insight into the machinations of the thoroughbred racing industry.
Teague's sound knowledge of the thoroughbred racing industry and other areas of sports law ensures he can provide clients with sound advice in these areas.
